On Sunday Silke & Werner picked a small batch of olives for the test run through the Azzuro Olive Mill. Yesterday Pablo and I put that batch through the mill and produced our first batch of 2018 olive oil. We will bottle this unfiltered and offer it exclusively in the Azzuro Epicurean store on Waiheke Island. The fruit on the trees is looking good and so we are shaping up for an early start before Easter.

Pablo and I inspected the groves yesterday and estimate that we are going to have a huge crop this year. The olives are ripening much earlier than previous years so we are planning to commence the harvest during the last week of March. The berries are close to their normal size and have started to colour up already. We will be ding a trial pick next week to run through the mill to check out all of the Alfa Laval equipment and make sure that we are ready to go when harvest commences.
